The massive majority of DH riders use wide and flat pedals. And for shoes it's either a cheap comfortable pair of skate shoes, (I like nike 6.0 shoes) or if you want the shizzle then buy the "impact" for 5-10 shoes. it is a DH spesific shoe made buy a company that makes their own rubbers for climbing shoes. If you cant get on with them, then use another pair of shoes as this pedal has a platform as well! Some you can even remove a plate to make them clipless ready.
