Dude if your going to be ridding DH then I would NOT use clipless pedals. The massive majority of DH riders use wide and flat pedals. And for shoes it's either a cheap comfortable pair of skate shoes, (I like nike 6.0 shoes) or if you want the shizzle then buy the "impact" for 5-10 shoes. it is a DH spesific shoe made buy a company that makes their own rubbers for climbing shoes. They are awsome and about $120

Im a big fan of clipless pedals, if you get Shimano M540 pedals and shoes to suit, you can try them out! If you cant get on with them, then use another pair of shoes as this pedal has a platform as well!

Worth checking out eh?
References :
For DH... i usually use flat soled shoes similar to skate shoes. 661, 5ten, fox, oakley, etc have some nice shoes available. Some you can even remove a plate to make them clipless ready. The ONLY time I clip in is when i'm only doing singletrack or wide open trails.
